A Grief Observed
A Grief Observed by C. S. Lewis, a great British theologian—sometimes doubt feels scary, but Jesus is always right there, saying, “Daughter, daughter, don’t you know? I miss your laughter” (“Miss Magdalene,” His Story, the musical).
The bottom paragraph says, “Not that I am (I think) in much danger of ceasing to believe in God. The real danger is of coming to believe such dreadful things about Him. The conclusion I dread is not, ‘So there’s no God after all,’ but, ‘So this is what God is really like. Deceive yourself no longer.’”
I’ve been thinking lately. Distance from God isn’t real; He is everywhere. Psalm 139 says there is no place we can go where God isn’t. If you feel far like I do sometimes, God is calling your attention back to Him. “Just come back to Me now” (“Lost Cause,” His Story, the musical). He just loves you. And He is the best He can offer, and He does not hold back.
